Macarons, although thought to be a French delicacy, were actually first created in Italy by the chef of Catherine de Medici and brought to France in the early 1500's where they gained their popularity.
This tempting treat is made of two almond-meringue shells that are sweet, crispy, light and chewy all at once. They are then filled with buttercream, jam, ganache, or fruit curd which is where they get their delicious flavour.
